Below are some examples of the impactful work our Foundation supports in the community.
Allen Gmelin Rotary Memorial Award
Our Rotary club has a charitable foundation that was incorporated in 1967. Inside of the foundation there is money that was donated by the Gmelin family for the Allen Gmelin Rotary Memorial Award Fund. It is a permanent endowment and the interest funds two Early Childhood Education Program awards at Conestoga College. Our club’s charitable foundation funds a lot of great programs in our community.
Wilf Rieck Pitch Day At Conestoga College
Wilf Rieck Pitch Day is an event at Conestoga College where students pitch their business ideas to our Rotary club members judges and other celebrity judges.
Hosted by the Conestoga Entrepreneurship Collective (CEC), the Virtual Pitch Day @ Conestoga is an annual event featuring pre-seed startups in the Conestoga Venture Lab and finalists from various entrepreneurship programs pitching original business ideas to a panel of judges, an audience of entrepreneurs, business and community leaders, and potential investors.
This event is now sponsored through the generosity of Cambridge entrepreneur, Wilf Rieck, who embodied the program's entrepreneurial and community spirit.
With the support of the Preston Hespeler Rotary Club, Wilf Rieck has donated a generous gift to the Conestoga Entrepreneurship Collective to provide the prize money for Pitch Day every year.
First Prize: $5,000.00
Second Prize: $2,000.00
Third Prize: $1,000.00
