ROTARY'S SEVEN AEAS OF FOCUS
Environment, Prevention & Treatment Of Diseases
PROJECT TITLE - Caps for Life
DESCRIPTION
The Caps for Life project has several purposes: The first and most important thing is that we contribute the financing cancer treatment for children. We also promote caring for the environment and the Club's public image. The pilot program has been developed inside Puerto Aventuras Tourist Complex, thanks to the link and facilities granted by the Settlers Committee. To do this, we built the first 2 containers of 4 total containers that will be installed in strategic areas of the complex. Each container measures 1.20 meters tall, consists of advertisements with the club's data, and the different social networks where we have a presence. We have verified almost immediately that their purposes work perfectly because the heartshaped deposits have had great acceptance, we have also been contacted by Rotarians who vacation in the place and have even asked us for the information to replicate it in their clubs.
OBJECTIVE
Install heart shaped containers in Playa del Carmen complexes in order to promote the club´s image. This will give people who live in the complexes a chance to contribute to treatments for children with cancer and support the environment.
COST
Each piece has a cost of $1,850.00 mexican pesos.

Dear Rotary Club Members,
Thanks to your Rotary Club, families who have lost everything will not be left without shelter or hope. Last year, ShelterBox was able to provide 210,000 people affected by natural disaster and conflict with emergency aid thanks to our generous supporters. As people of action, you are the reason that we are able to provide emergency shelter and tools to families robbed of their homes by disaster. Together, we're transforming despair into hope. Your Club’s donation means that ShelterBox can continue to empower families who have lost everything by not just giving them shelter, but the ability to recover. We are proud to be Rotary International’s Project Partner, further strengthening a global circle of friendship. We also believe in being people of action. At ShelterBox we are impatient to see no family left without shelter. This is why we never stop. Your generous gift helps ShelterBox teams work to deliver shelter 365 days of the year. We cherish your kindness. Thank you. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call me at our office at 647-352-1930.
Kind Regards,
Tess Widdifield Acting Executive Director, ShelterBox Canada .

Chiquimula, Guatemala Medical Clinic
Twelve clubs have agreed to pool their resources together to equip a teaching mini-hospital to better enable it to treat the poor and train new doctors while doing it. Collectively we have raised $31kUSD towards the $36kUSD needed to reach the planned $196kUSD Global Grant (GG) using matching Rotary Foundation and Government of Canada grants. CUNORI University Medical Faculty in Chiquimula, Guatemala has a clinic that serves the community. The clinic is supposed to teach medical students and provide affordable healthcare, and free medication, to the poor in the area. However, currently the clinic has no medical equipment. Even the examination beds are in very poor condition. Therefore, they cannot effectively teach, nor provide real care at their facility. (Rather the students are forced to get their clinical hands-on-training in private hospitals.) The funds will be used to change the situation and to equip the mini-hospital. The benefits of a true, fully functioning mini-hospital will be amazing. We will be training doctors while helping the poor.

Sri Lanka Orphanage Project
CANADAPURA, SRI LANKA
In 2012 Rotarian Linda Breault was one of 13 volunteers who travelled to Sri Lanka to help rebuild a community that was devastated by the tsunami that hit their southern border on the infamous Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004. Before the tsunami, 30% of Sri Lankans were living on less than $15 US per month. Then the tsunami hit, and more than 40,000 were killed, and people who were just getting by were plunged further into poverty.
An organization called Trip Canada/Developing World Connections has been organizing an annual service trip to this area since 2005. In 2012, Linda’s group added 2 classrooms to the village’s primary school and 2 bedrooms to the temple’s residence across the street from the school. Each day the volunteers worked on various extremely strenuous tasks on a rotational basis, from mixing concrete with shovels and making a human chain to transport the concrete by the small pail fulls to the floor being built inside the school and temple, to digging a trench where a new wall would be built, to laying mud that would dry to make a wall, to then later painting that wall.
Linda was President of the Rotary Club of Cambridge Preston-Hespeler in the 2018-2019 year. Linda’s trip to Sri Lanka was the reason she became a Rotarian, having come home with a desire to do more to help her community and internally as well. During her Presidential year her club submitted a District Grant, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Cambridge North, to add a second floor to an orphanage in this little southern village of Canadapura.
Thank you cambridge preston-hespeler & cambridge north rotary clubs
Thank you for helping us build homes, lives, communities and futures
Thanks to the generosity of your Rotary clubs and Rotary International construction of three new bedrooms have been added to the Canadapura orphanage, furnished with beds, bedding, wardrobes, desks, and chairs. This provides 12 children with a safe, nurturing environment. We are very grateful for your donation!
